VW Trucks in EuropeBack | Home | NextHere's one you're not likely to see around town here in the USA. This is the 1985 double cab Transporter. Mechanically, it's the same as the Vanagon. This one is extremely rare even for Germany with that hydraulic tilt bed. Man, I'd love to show up at a VW show with that. The Transporter single and double cab pickups have belly storage that goes all the way through the vehicle. You can see the access hatch just ahead of the rear wheels here. Naturally, the belly storage doors lock with the vehicle key. Engine access is through the hole that you see under the dump bed and through the access door between the taillights like the earlier bus. The engine air inlets are the small louvered slits above and slightly forward of the rear wheels. Ever since I saw my first double cab transporter I have wanted one. Just my luck, though, VW never brought them here. |
